Holy Cow Batman…It is SPIDERWOMAN!

Monday, December 29th, 2008

Meet Janice Williams. She is the current Spiderwoman residing in Alabama. Janice is a bead artist. Look at her spiders. They are wonderful. You can use them in your flower pots as I have done or you can just put them in a vase and admire them or anything else you can think of. We are going to have them for sale on our website soon. Right now you can order them through this blog. Just email me and tell me what color category you want. Red, black, blue, green etc and I will get you the most beautiful one in that color category. I accept PayPal and will email you the directions.

They are going to be $7.00 each and free shipping in the USA. Overseas we will have to charge shipping. Email me if you have any questions and soon I will have them added to the website. Below you will see some pictures of just a few I have. There are a lot more and all equally beautiful.

Paper Pieced Santa

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

Today at our guild meeting, I was working on a Christmas Stack and Whack type quilt and Linda our teacher had something she wanted us to try. She took an ornament pattern and made it 90 percent larger on the copier and we paper pieced the design. It was a Santa Claus design. I know Christmas is over and this probably is not a big deal to most of you but it is to us. You see when someone mentions paper piecing and gets the pattern out we scatter like roaches when you turn the kitchen light on. We are afraid of paper piecing. WELL NO MORE!  I fell in love with it and I am going to master this technique. Linda said this was the way to get the perfect measurements and I can see why. Plus the click click click the needle makes when it goes through the paper it neat also. Enjoy this picture of Janice, Kay and myself proudly displaying our design. THANKS LINDA FOR HELPING US!

Kay Calamusa using my machine. We only had one there today because the guild’s machines were packed up and taken away during December not to get in Santa’s way. So I always bring mine to class anyway. Thisone I bought just  for classes. We played musical chairs today..  When the music stopped we all ran for the machine! It worked out fine. I did not mind sharing.

Here is Linda Wade our leader pinning the pieces for us so we could all take a finished block home!

Great news. Fox 6 in Birmingham with Fred Hunter came to Palisades Park in Oneonta, Alabama today where our guild meets each Tuesday and Thursday, plus 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month . We were so blessed that Fred is going to do an hour long special on interesting stories in Alabama. Our Guild, The Blount County Quilter’s Guild and the park where we have our cottage, Palisades Park will be on the special. Fred  came today and filmed for several hours despite being up most of the night with tornado and storm warnings. Fred and his crew are awesome people. Very nice and we thank them very much. Here are some of the many pictures that were taken today. Be sure to watch the special on Fox 6 Christmas Day 6 to 7 pm. For those who will not pick it up I will link to it from their site if available. Mike Tucker was Fred’s photographer.. I took these pictures. Mike makes pictures a zillion times better than me.

Catherine Strickland all dressed up like a movie star and glittering like a Christmas tree! She looked great!

The Calamusa family with Santa. Susannah joined us for our Christmas party at the guild and kept us entertained.  Susannah please come back!

Meet WARDEN Linda Wade and Eileen Cundiff.  Linda is our leader and she takes it seriously. Some of us made the mistake of getting up to go to the restroom during a class project. We heard, “Where are you going?” When we told her we got “Shut up sit down and sew.” We have learned not to drink anything before and during quilting. Just kidding. Linda has taught us alot and done alot for us. We love her and believe it or not we made 4 quilt tops that day! Yes, cut and sewed together 4 complete tops. We were afraid not to!! We really wished everyone had a teacher like her! THANKS LINDA!

And The Winner Is!!!

Friday, December 26th, 2008

Well I did not get 55 names for the drawing for the book I was giving away this month. I took all the names and gave them a number, then I put the numbers on pieces of paper. Gary my husband drew the number while Aunt Jan and myself watched. He drew out number 2.  I took the list out and the winner is…. drum roll…….   GENE BLACK..  CONGRATS MR. BLACK!   If you will send me your address where you want this book mailed out, we will get it in the mail this week.

To all who entered, I am sorry I did not have more books and later on this month I am having a great give a way.  I think you all will like it.  Check back and register. Thank you all who entered.

New Years Goals!

Sunday, December 21st, 2008

Does anyone else still make these?  Well when I first wrote this article I called it New Years Resolutions. After some consideration and deep thought I knew durn well I was in line to break at least 6 by Jan 2, 2009.  So in order to remove some stress off me I decided to say I will try to make some of these goals. Not all but some! Now is that not better?

Here are a few of mine.

Tell my husband Gary at least 5 times a day how much I love him and how he is a gift from God with lots of hugs and kisses.

Lose a pound a week.  That is a pound of body weight!

Stay on a no sugar diet for my “d”. I refuse to say what D is but  JUST SAY NO TO SUGAR!

Sew everyday until my eyes hurt or bleed. Whichever comes first.

KAREN PLEASE DON’T GET MAD!!!  I wanted everyone to see “IT” Growing up!

Call Aunt Jan and “it”daily.
“It” is my sister Karen whom I love very much. You can read about her in “The Coming of It.” Aunt Jan is my Aunt who has an addiction, bless her little heart. If any of you out there know where we can get her in YO YO ANONYMOUS would you please let me know.  She has some yo yo makers that she got off my store on the web site and all she does is make fabric yo yo’s.  I will call her during the day and evening and say “What you doing?”  Her reply, “Yo Yo’ing!”  God help us we have created a monster! But her yo yo’s are perfect!

Stay home more this year and enjoy my home. “There is no place like home.” Dorothy!  I am watching it on TV now on TNT as I blog… I just love that movie, The Wizard of Oz. I have seen it so much in my lifetime I can almost say the lines word for word…  “I will get you my little pretty and your little dog too!”

Comb Prissy my only cat everyday and pet her.  She is old and from the looks of this picture lazy!!! She is at least 15 years old and an outdoor cat. She is not fat..she is really a real small cat.. Just about 20 lbs of hair.. Part Persian and part Siamese and part sorry!

Gary calls her the Abominable Snowman! She look like a real fat sheep sometimes. She can bite like a tiger and her reflexes are perfect!

Go to Church. I am so blessed I need to go and thank God. (I do watch church on TV, but I need to actually go.) AND I DO THANK HIM DAILY ALL DAY!

Do not procrastinate.

Go fishing this spring. Gary will have to bait the hook..  I am scared of worms.

Work in yard this summer and get all things planted I have been wanting for years.( Look our for snakes.. I usually run across a couple trying to get me!!) Try to find something deer won’t eat… They eat all my hostas every year.

Wash my car once a week and that does not mean taking it to Anthony’s Car Wash in Birmingham. That means getting off my sorry “you know what” and washing it myself. I can hear the music “At The Car Wash” playing now! Where are my daisy dukes?

Keep my house spotless. I do keep a clean house but I want to have one perfectly clean. Just call me Bree Vanderkamp.

Clean out cabinets, drawers, cubbyholes and organize, especially my wreck of a sewing studio. Maybe I will find all those lost items that I have two or three of because I have misplaced them and had to re-order.

Don’t worry….Be happy!

Get more rest.

Quit drinking….Soda’s that is and that includes diet soda’s.. They are actually worse on you than regular soda’s.  I am a diet soda freak! But I am stopping December 31st! Water is going to be my drink of choice or tea.

Don’t cuss when my sewing machine acts up!!!   Where is the duct tape for my mouth? What is that saying? “Lord put your arm around my shoulder and your hand over my mouth!” I can relate.

Have patience. After all it is a virtue is it not?

And last but not least.. Cook… and quit going to Cracker Barrel..  COOK IN YOUR NEW KITCHEN WOMAN !!

I am cooking Christmas.. Infact I am starting Tuesday night and Wednesday.  Gary is smiling now.. He loves my cooking. I don’t, but he does.

I like what Maxine says…  “Screw up the turkey and dressing and you will be the rolls and soda person for life!”

And that is just a few.

And my philosophy..   RULES WERE MADE TO BE BROKEN!

Fred Hunter, TV personality with Fox 6 News out of Birmingham, AL is featured on the front page of The Blount Countian. This is a newspaper in our area. Fred and his crew came last week and filmed at our guild and all through Palisades Park where our quilters cottage is located.  I am doing an article on the blog with pictures.. It is taking a while so until then enjoy this picture and stop by http://www.blountcountian.com/ for a great article and newspaper. This special show will be December 25th from 6 to 7 pm Central Time. The quilt that Fred is sitting on is a Raggedy Ann and Andy that my husband Gary made. You can see it upclose on my website under Quilts for Sale page 2.. You can do a rollover and see a very good picture of it. The quilt on the left that the lady elf is sitting on belongs to Linda Wade and the quilt on the right that the lady elf and child is sitting on belongs to Eric Cundiff. His mother Eileen Cundiff made it for him.  Eric is a real nice young man and we all love him! Oh I forgot to mention.. He is also very handsome!
