I am in Giza Egypt. Get my passport ready and saddle up a camel.

Friday, January 30th, 2009

Gary my husband hardly ever gets to use my computer. I am always on it doing something at night when we are in our little office/Aunt Janice’s bedroom watching TV. Well he has never asked and I never thought to ask him if he wanted to use the computer. I guess I just assumed he did not. When I would leave to go to my quilting club he would be on the computer all day long. When I would get home in the evening he would be so excited. The last time he met me at the back door and said “I have been to Trinidad to where we used to live when Daddy was in the Navy!” I felt his forehead for a fever and checked him for a stroke but he seemed ok.  He was so excited. He found the location and the house is still there along with all the other buildings that was there when they lived there in the 50’s. Gary will be 64 next month so that was a real long time ago.  I found out he goes to Century 21 Realty and maps a certain location and zooms in on it until he can see everything. Well I bought him a laptop this week for his birthday and we got a wireless router. His birthday is in February but I decided to give it to him early.  Right now we are in Giza Egypt looking at the pyramids.  I swear I saw a camel spit on someone!   Got to run, we are dropping in at Dubai in a few minutes and I must comb my hair and then off to England to take tea with Queen Elizabeth! Reckon she will mind if I show up in my Pj’s? Do I qualify for frequent flyer miles?  OMG I have to tell you. We are now at the Eiffel Tower in Gay Paree…We got stuck at the arc de Triomphe and almost had a wreck!  They drive on the wrong side of the road. You want to hear something funny. I DON’T AND WON’T FLY IN A PLANE!  So I guess until they build a road or we can get there by ship I will just have to look at it online! He really meant it when he said “Marry me and I will take you places you have never been!” Gosh I am crazy in love with that man!

Scrap Happy. Almost finished.

Hey I am slowly coming out of my winter funk!  I don’t know why but this year I have not enjoyed the winter as much as I usually do.  There was not enough sunlight here at Locust Fork, AL that I usually like to see during the winter. I like the dreary days but we had about 12 in a row and that was about 7 to many! Hopefully spring like weather will be here soon. Today it was in the 70’s and I went to Birmingham in short sleeves and shorts! Now that is a switch! I felt good today and hopefully will get in to a sewing mood.

I am working on a quilt called The Puzzler. It has about a zillion pieces. I am about 3/4’s finished and hope to be finished soon. Here are some pictures. I hope you enjoy. It is totally going to be a scrappy Gees Bend type. I just love those old scrappy quilts.  I call it Scrap Happy. It definately is scrappy and I will be happy when it is finished. We are going to try to quilt it on our machine at home. The border has about 800 plus pieces and I am not joking. Hopefully this weekend we can get some cut out and put together. I will be glad when this is finished.

Jeepers, Creepers, Check out those PEEPERS!

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

Hey, normally I would not even be interested in any eyeglass service online but I have to tell you about this service. Gary, my husband gets this medical report from a doctor that sends him something every month. We have found a lot of good things off this newsletter. This one particular month there was an article about this optical place that had glasses starting at $8.00.  Yes I said it right. Well I was not sure but I checked it out and they had some great frames and offered progressive and tinted lens also.  I told a friend of mine, Gene and he ordered some. I think they were around $50.00 dollars including shipping. Gene came to my house a couple of weeks ago and he had a pair that he had spent around $300.00 on and these. He put on one pair took them off and put on the other. I did not know which was which and I liked one pair a lot better than the other. Turns out the Zenni Optical pair was the ones I liked the best. The frames were very nice and looked great on him.  So you see you can order here even if it is a spare pair and have a great pair of glasses VERY REASONABLE!  http://www.zennioptical.com/cart/home.php   just give it a peep!  I have an eye appointment in a few months and I will be getting mine from Zenni Optical. It is a law that your eye doctor has to give you a copy of the prescription, whether they want to or not. ASK.

I know some of you are sitting there thinking I have absolutely lost my mind posting this on a quilting site but I just could not resist to tell you about the farm of George and Cindy Martin. Not only is the webpage gorgeous every plant I have bought from them has been perfect and they have great heirloom tomato plants. They are located in Alabama and ship all over the USA. Please give them a look and see what they have. You will not be disappointed. For all of you who live in the Birmingham, AL area they come to the Pepper Place Farmers Market each weekend.  THANKS FOR LOOKING!

Saturday January 24,2009 Quilt Class

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

Saturday Linda Wade, our leader decided to teach a Gordian Knot class at quilting. Usually we have 6 to 7 at our Saturday meeting. This week 16 decided to show up. It was nerve wracking and loud but we survived. Catherine Stickland was there and we had a birthday party for her. She was a good sport. She wore her birthday hat most of the afternoon. Here are some pictures to enjoy.

Linda showing some of the women a Gordian Knot.

Catherine’s birthday table. She is a Red Hat Member so we had her all fixed up!

Janice Williams with her Gordian Knot she made last year. We are so proud of her. She finally had it quilted. Her fabric was teapots. Great job Janice!

Linda, Catherine and Annette. This was Annette’s first time to sew!

Janice Williams other Gordian Knot she made for her son Jimmy. It is made with Auburn University fabric. Again another great job.

This is my Aunt Jan. She decided to spend the day with us at the guild. She is making yo yo’s from the yo yo makers she got off my site! She does a great job and these are very easy to make. She is a great Aunt. My sister Karen and myself fight over her. We love her so much.

I call this “There was no room in the inn!”  Because there was no room at the sewing machines.  I am glad I brought mine! Linda showing Joyce, Carol and Lynda something about the Gordian Knot. Joyce was paying attention!

This is Eileen Cundiff’s Ohio Star. She bought the pattern at The American Quilter’s Society, Quilt Show in Nashville, Tennesee last year. She does the most beautiful work. I am proud of her. I just love anything that she does.

I am also sad that the Gaylord Hotel in Nashville will not host this years quilt show. It will be in Knoxville. It will not be the same. Going to the Gaylord was the highlight of the year for us.

Last but not least. Catherine Strickland aka Birthday Girl. She is such a good sport. She wore the hat the rest of the day!  HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
