American Quilters Society Quilt Show, Knoxville, Tennessee

Sunday, July 11th, 2010

American Quilters Society, quilt show will be July 14 – 17 , 2010 at Knoxville Convention Center, Knoxville, Tennessee.

We are not attending this year, but that is not a reason for you not to go! Knoxville is a beautiful city with a lot of exciting things to do along with the quilt show.  It is worth the trip to the AQS Show just for the vendors. There will be many of them. One of my favorites is Eleanor Burns. You will not meet a nicer person on the earth than her. She is so kind and always laughing and smiling.  I think Alex Anderson is there also this year. I am sorry I did not get to see her. I was going to go up and pick up a rotary cutter and cut toward me.. Remember how she always had a fit when somebody did that on her show? Eleanor Burns was the only one that I saw do that on the show and she said nothing.  I would like to have met Alex and I would not be playing with the rotary cutter.

My First Quilt I Entered In A Competition

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

Bowtiefan quilt 3

This quilt was the first quilt I entered in local competition. I won 3rd place. I was so proud.  It was made for Aunt Janice. She was so happy when she came and saw her name on the quilt.  She still has it and loves it.  I call this quilt “There’s one in every crowd!”  The reason, when I was making it I was so careful to keep each blade in order.  Brown, Green, Yellow and so forth.  Only one of the blocks I got out of order.  Only one…  I did not realize it until I had the quilt put together. So naturally, there has to be one in every crowd. Aunt Jan won’t look for it or won’t let me show her where it is. She said she has never noticed and if she does know her eye will go to there everytime!!! So I have not told.

My Newest Awards

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

I would be posting pictures right now of me standing by my two prize winning quilts but dingbat here left the batteries home and took the camera. Oh well. I will learn.

Today at the Gadsden Museum in Gadsden, Alabama I was very happy. My Eureka Quilt won 3rd place and my African Ladies Dancing known also as African Beauty won 1st Place. They were displayed very nicely. The ribbons I will be getting are very nice also. They have done a great job on the quilt show.

If any of you live in the area drop by and see ALL the quilts. The museum is a beautiful place and I plan on being a frequent visitor. They have great displays of a lot of different things and some of the most awesome pictures of old Gadsden. The show is free. They do have a donation box and you could just drop some money in there to keep the place going. The show will last until October 23rd. I am already thinking about next years entry!! Can’t start to early can we?

Gadsden Museum of Art, 501 Broad Street, Gadsden, AL will be hosting a quilt show starting September 1 through the middle of October. Here you will see quilts from all over Alabama.

If you are near the area please stop by.  I have two quilts on display .

The museum also host a large collection of bibles ranging from copies made by Gutenbergs Printing Press, dating 1450 to 1881.

We went there a few weeks ago to drop off my quilts. It was my first time to tour inside the museum. They had an art show going on of drawings, sculptures and paintings. I was so impressed with the museum. I will be a return visitor.
