I love thrift stores!

The problem with shopping at thrift stores is you can end up spending more money in them than shopping at department stores on clearance. Most thrift stores have weekly specials on certain colored tags. The two stores that I frequent most often have a color tag that is 75% off and another color tag 50% off. Every Monday the color tags change. I only shop for the color that is 75% off. Last week I bought my family 2 pairs of blue jeans, 4 long sleeve shirts, 2 short sleeve shirts, 4 baby onesies, a purse, a solid brass horse ashtray (for a friend) and a baby monitor all for the grand total of……$10.44. Everything that I bought was 75% off. Also the thrift store has a shopping card that once you have it punched 10 times you get 25% off your total purchase. How wonderful it feels to walk out with bags of clothes and you spent next to nothing! You can also ask for senior and military discounts.

There are people out there (and you may be one of them) who think thrift stores only have yard sale rejects – stained clothes or broken items. Wrong! I find my family name brand clothes that look brand new – Abercrombie & Fitch, Aeropostle, Mudd, Lucky Brand, Gap, Banana Republic, Levi and so on. There is a Goodwill close to here that Target donates all their clearance items that haven’t sold. I have found beautiful pictures, wall clings, shirts, pants, notebooks, household items still in packaging with tags for next to nothing!

We donate our household items, adult clothes (we give kids clothes to families with kids that can use them) and toys to different thrift stores. We get a tax deduction, the thrift stores profits usually go to a good cause and our no longer used items get a new home instead of sitting in a landfill.

So the next time you are in need of silverware, plates, glasses, pots, pans, books, baby strollers, clothes or that new purse check out thrift stores. You may be in for a pleasant surprise. Not only are you going to save money but you are saving our planet!!

Finally the quilt top is finished. Now on to the quilting part. I did buy some very interesting fabric for the back. I really like it. When the quilt is finished I will post a back picture as well as a front picture. This is going to be the last Grandmothers Fan that I plan on doing. Sometimes after I do so many that is it. Well this is it. I dont think I could do another.

I love scrappy and I am going to only do scrappy old fashioned quilts the rest of this year and the entire next year. I hope I do not get tired of them.

I met with my webmaster Carol yesterday. Our heads are bursting at the seams with ideas.

Stay tuned for more information at a later date. See that is a reason to come back for a visit.

Living at Granny’s house and growing up in Piedmont, AL we had some strange sayings. Granny would call Harbin Morgan’s store and “Order Groceries” instead of saying I need to go to the grocery store to shop . I still catch myself today saying, ”Gary I need to go order groceries.” You could call down there and place an order what you want. Then in an hour or so there would be this little man with this wire basket knocking at your door with your items. Granny would pay him or sometimes charge and then when Pop got paid she would go to town to pay her bill. Town was a block away down the back alley and across the railroad tracks.

Gary my husband has put a new meaning to ordering groceries. He has discovered www.amazon.com. They probably have had to hire new personel to keep up with his ordering. No longer to we buy toilet tissue and paper towels. We are on automatic order and get two huge boxes every two months. It is not cheap brands either. It is Scott brand. It is a little cheaper than what you pay in the stores, delivered to your home or in our case the post office box, no sales tax and no standing in line looking at disgruntled clerks who hate their job and take it out on you. Plus look at all the gas you save. We also order at Amazon our garbage bags, cans of International Coffee, wax carton’s of soymilk that does not have to be refrigerated, razors, canned crab meat, peanut butter, batteries, my diabetic supplies, some vitamins and just about anything you can find that is not perishable. When I say we need something he says “I will see if Amazon has it.” I love ordering groceries online. What we don’t get there we find at the Dollar Store in Locust Fork. I wish you all could see our Dollar Store. IT IS SPOTLESS and so organized. We have such great women that work there. THEY CARE and it shows. I have not been to Walmart in over a month and I hope I can stay out for good. I can’t say I never will go back there because I will BUT we order everything we can to be delivered to us instead of going to stores. Very reasonable and you save a lot in gas and time. Of course I would be foolish to not know I am going to have to go to grocery stores for some things. That I will go to Whole Foods or the Pig in Cleveland.

Think of something you buy all the time and go to www.amazon.com and see if they have it. You will be surprised and you will like the service you get. We have had zero problems. Now go to Amazon and “Order you some groceries!” It works for us. A lot of the things we get are eligible for free shipping. I love that.

Just an all in all good day. Met my web master Carol Logan Newbill at Whole Foods. Had a very good lunch there and then when we finished eating I was going out to my car to get my computer and saw David Norris, a local attorney with http://www.norrisinjurylawyers.com/ and old friend of my husband and myself eating. Stopped and chatted with him for a few mintues.

Carol and I came up with a lot of ideas and she really helped me with some problems I was having understanding some things on my blog.

She brought some beautiful minature and baby quilts she had made a long time ago. They were awesome.

She even brought some books she had put together. Very talented and a joy to be around. She is one smart woman and I just enjoy learning from her.

After Carol left I had to do some grocery shopping at my favorite store, Whole Foods Market , Highway 280, in Birmingham. I was already there so I need to make good use of it. I need to protest until they build one here in Locust Fork, AL. Oh that is a joke. I dont think in my lifetime there will ever be one here. It would be nice and I would work there for free!

Well got home and had an email from a lady named Kathy. She has a post on her site about the rain plant of mine I wrote about several posts back. She gave a good detailed set of instructions on how to take care of it. I am looking forward to having a yard full of these. I will be predicting the weather and calling the weathermen and women out, if they do not give the correct predictions. Visit here Zephyranthes is a Unique Plant

Oh it is just fun..No harm intended.

Now off to fixing my husband Gary’s dinner and I will be back later. I am very thankful for good days like today.
