Tutorial For Fabric Bowls

I found the above tutorial on You Tube . Joyce a friend of mine who lives not far from me is making fabric bowls using clothes line and fabric. I sure want to make some for my home and for gifts. Look at her beautiful bowl. She always amazes me at her talent.

The tutorial is very interesting to watch. She sews them on an old sewing machine. That just goes to show you that you do not have to have a fancy machine with ALL the bells and whistles to make and create beautiful things.

Here is a pictorial tutorial http://www.craftstylish.com/item/33825/how-to-sew-a-fabric-bowl/page/all

Of course the best tutorials on the web are by Vanessa at Crafty Gemini http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bpz6VTFS0Zo

Here is a tutorial where you can make them without using clothesline.

Below are some images of bowls. Start with the bowls and then go on to making purses, pot sitters, you know those things you use when you take your pot off the stove, place mats and anything else you can think of out of this technique. I even saw a small rug.

Just think about this. Don’t you think your friends and family would love some of your artwork? It would mean more to me to receive a bowl that someone made than a gift they went to the store and bought. I prefer something someone made to something someone bought.  Get started now on your list for birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas , wedding showers or “I was just thinking about you present.”

In this economy we can use up what we have, make beautiful art and bless someone!

Several good things about making these bowls. You do not have to have a fancy bells and whistles machine, you do not have to buy a ton of fabric. You could rip up some old clothes you no longer wear and I am sure if you are like me you have enough fabric to supply the entire population in your state with a bowl. AND last but not least, it does not have to be perfect. Wonky will be fine!

THE WHEELS ARE ALREADY TURNING IN MY HEAD..THAT IS DANGEROUS!

Thanks for the tutorial. I have a vintage White machine, but, mine is MUCH older and is just straight stitch. I found a lovely red fabric bowl at the Kansas Visitors Center on Sunday. The person that made is is also named ‘Cheryl’. How cool is that? I’ll have to try this one of these days. I wonder if my ‘zig-zag’ attachment would work? Hmmm…. just may have to try that.
