A Great Find

PICT7541

I have had this for years. It just dawned on me that it is a quilted piece. I wonder how they did this? I sure would love to know so I could take some of the old quilt pieces I have and make some more..It is hard as a brick.. Anybody have any ideas on this technique please be sure to let me know. I would love to make one.  It is molded just like a hat.  Thank you in advance.

is the back solid/flat? Or is it really like a hat you could wear? (not that I would advocate wearing it, just curious) The difference could help someone know what technique it is.

it has a back, batting , top piece. It is as hard as an army helmet and molded just like a hat.. You could wear it I suppose but like I said hard as a rock. They must have put some type of stiffener on it. and molded it over something. I just love it.. And it would be great to make some more if I knew how they did it.

Hi! I couldn’t resist responding to your blog today. There is a fabric product called, appropriately, Stiffey — my sister and I used to make fabric bows for decorated baskets with it. You make the object, then paint on the Stiffey, shape as desired and let dry. I think it is kind of like decoupage medium. And lots of fun!
