Quilts for Alabama Tornado Victims—Your Generosity Continues!

This was on Nancy Zieman’s Blog. Anyone wanting to help click http://www.nancyzieman.com/blog/?p=3515

Sewists and quilters are such giving people! After my posting yesterday of Quilts4Japan, many of you responded favorably, plus asked how to give quilts to our fellow Americans in Alabama who have suffered great loss due to last weeks tornadoes. Today we researched and found two individuals who have made it their quest to help those in the devastated southeast corner of our country.

Bama Bound Quilts, a new project created to comfort some of the littlest victims of the recent tornados is a quilt charity for Tuscaloosa and Jefferson county residents started by Michelle Kizziah. The focus of Michelle’s mission is to provide children and baby quilts. Details can be found at Bama Bound Quilts.

Another Alabama resident, Julia Wood, recently posted on her blog, “Tornado Quilts: Want to help?” In her blog, greenQuilts, she summarizes the sentiments of so many of us, ” . . . I can’t build a house. So, I will make quilts because that’s what I CAN do!” Again, just click on this link to find out details from Julia.

I am certain there are other individual or organizations who will (or soon will) be collecting and distributing quilts for tornado victims. Please post those links if you have others to add.

So, get out those unfinished quilt blocks, and stitch a gift of love for others. As always, the gift is in the giving!

Bye for now,

Nancy Zieman

  1. I really want to do quilts for charity, but need to get some more practice in. I am hoping I can meet some ladies at the quilt shop that would be interested in having quilt ins for charity quilts and work together on them.
