New Years Resolution Starting Today

I know it is not 2012 yet, but I have one resolution to start today before the year starts. Getting rid of things I do not use and have not used.

I have a 6 months plan. If I have something that I have not used in 6 months it is going.

I am going to have a box a week get rid of.  In Birmingham we have a great organization. Jimmie Hale Mission and Jessie’s Place. They support homeless men, women and children in trouble. They get them on the straight and narrow and find them jobs and help them get a new start in life. They also have a thrift store called The Mission. I plan on going on a mission and taking things by there weekly! In this economy they need all the help they can get. I do not have junk things. I have good things.

So today I am starting on one room going through some stuff. Isn’t it amazing how much “stuff” we accumulate and NEVER USE!

Do any of you have any resolutions you want to share?

  1. I need to do the same thing, things do tend to accumulate over the years;) I don’t have much in clothes, I tend to wear them out and have things I still wear from 30 years ago, lol.

I wear my clothes until you can read a newspaper through them. BUT I lost a lot of weight and I could not wear the ones I had so I gave them away. I am going to be very selective of what I buy .. I basically need jeans 2 pair and a few shirts. I am NOT going to have a closet full of clothes. I am not a clothes person. I am just as happy as a coyote with the family pet in their mouth with just jeans and a few shirts.
The thrift stores help homeless and people in need.. I am taking tons of stuff there this year.. TONS. One in particular..In the Birmingham are we have Jimmie Hale Mission and Jessie’s place. GREAT ORGANIZATION. They have the Mission. They will be getting my things.

Ha! We are doing the same thing – going through items once a week and passing on what has just been stored, or no longer fits, or is no longer loved. Our state (Florida) has been very hard hit by the recession, with no end in sight. Maybe our little gifts will make a tiny difference…

  4. I have been purging for a year now. Almost done. This years resolution is to keep sewing from my stash as much as possible and keep on the scraps……I use them and they keep multiplying too. Sew, sew, sew………….Haven’t done much of it in the past month since I work at the Post Office.
